LONDON EATING

An eating and dining tour through London might just be one of life’s greatest joys! Of course, it’s a constantly changing culinary landscape, but in my most recent visit the classics proved they have enduring staying power for a reason and a few ‘new-to-me’ places were the best discoveries.

River Cafe
A dream come true to go here, it was just INCREDIBLE and worth the 30-year wait to eat there! It was every bit as amazing as everyone has always said and was made extra special when we spied Ruth Rogers with her apron on chatting to the kitchen team. Persevere getting a booking, we had lunch on a Monday and it was full and buzzy. https://www.rivercafe.co.u

Bocca di Lupo
Neighbourhood Italian trattoria in Archer Street, perfectly located for a pre or post Piccadilly Circus theatre show meal. Not a thing left on our plates it was that good. https://www.boccadilupo.com

Granger & Co.
It is Bill’s plus some in London. The OG of food you want to eat, many locations but ate at  Notting Hill, Marylebone and Chelsea. Any meal here is testament to what a hospo legend Bill was and what an enduring food legacy he has left. https://grangerandco.com/marylebone

Colbert in Sloane Square
A casual French brasserie, we loved it so much we went twice in a as many days. Fun and buzzy, it is located on Sloane Square and is the ultimate Sloane-ranger people watching perch. Great for lunch and dinner. https://colbertrestaurant.com

Big Mamma Group
These guys have set a new bar for big fabulous splashy restaurant interiors with their string of Italian restaurants scattered throughout central London. Super fun with delicious food, we ate at Ae Mario in Covent Garden and Jacuzzi in High Street Kensington and loved the look of Carlotta in Marylebone. Get whatever reservation you can! https://www.bigmammagroup.com/en/trattorias/ave-mari https://www.bigmammagroup.com/en/trattorias/jacuzzi https://www.bigmammagroup.com/en/trattorias/carlott

Isabel Mayfair
Felt we had been transported to a movie set eating at Isabel Mayfair. It’s an intimate room with fab central bar, cosy banquette seating, DJ and all the brasserie classics you want to eat (and were all just next level YUM) Step out the door post dinner and wander home through the heart of Mayfair. https://www.isabelw1.londo

Sexy Fish
A Richard Carling restaurant (he owns most of Mayfair now – Annabelle’s, George, Scott’s, etc etc) this place is a crazy hybrid – Japanese restaurant meets Cabaret night club spectacular. Pure theatre all around you whilst eating incredible food, it’s a dinner and show you will never forget.  https://sexyfish.com

The Audley Public House
Posh pub smack bang in the middle of Mayfair, right next door to Scotts. Perfect to have a pit stop here, let your other half watch some sport and have a pint before you re boot for more shopping in the neighbouring Mayfair streets. Win win. https://theaudleypublichouse.com

The Wolseley
On the tourist foodie map, centrally located on Piccadilly. https://www.thewolseley.com

Spring
Skye Gyngell’s restaurant, stunning interior with a unique menu by a very accomplished and special chef. Skye was the culinary powerhouse behind the legendary Petersham Nursery café. https://springrestaurant.co.uk

Chiltern Firehouse
One of my absolute all-time favourites and must visits in London. Get a reservation for breakfast, lunch or dinner, you may even go twice, it is that good. Owned by Andre Balzas who owns Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, the place is sprinkled in magic fairy dust and there is a solid chance you are going to see Brad Pitt (who was at the table next to me, just the night before….. ) The whole thing is an aesthetic triumph from the room, to the food to the gorgeous staff in Emilia Wickstead jumpsuits. http://www.chilternfirehouse.com

The Connaught Bars

If you can try and get here for a drink it is worth it just to experience this next level hotel experience. Consistently voted best bar in London. https://www.the-connaught.co.uk/restaurants-bars/connaught-bar/

 COFFEE
Pleased (and relieved) to say that London coffee is now unbelievably good and very different from when I lived there many years ago. My choice pick is Gail’s, and it turns out it is a chain, which is hard to believe as the food and coffee were EXCELLENT. The Croissants here WERE THE BEST I HAVE EVER EATEN, including any in France!! Seriously, the bagels, salmon, savoury options were all incredible. Cannot believe it’s a chain. Pick a new one and walk to it for your morning coffee. https://gailsbread.co.uk\

Bread Ahead in Pavilion Rd off Sloane Square also amazing and with delicious pastries and savoury snacks for lunch on the run.
